Department of Political Science

The department of Political Science was started with the establishment of the college in 1987. At first classes were held in S. P. Roy High School, Sonakhira by Smt. Bijoya Chakraborty. Subsequently Sri Pradip Kumar Dey joint in the department of Political Science in the year 1990 and had been serving in the department till 2004. At its inception the department had been offering higher secondary course. In the year 1991, the Political Science department was upgraded into degree course. Subsequently major or honours course was started in the year 2005. The department of Political Science is dedicated to excellence in respect of teaching as well as service also. The department of Political Science has been offering foundation and broad understanding and discipline and to accord permission with greatest interest in all aspects that national and international level.

Vision:

The teachers of the concerned department have been imparting teaching for the maintenance of educational s well professional atmosphere.

The students are also imparted educational for their inspiration on peaceful co-existence in unity and integrity in diversity also.

The teachers are imparting teaching for better understanding and respecting the diversified culture which helps in nation building etc.

The students are also being imparted to develop and explore political ideas as well as to implement the different political polices.

Mission:

The students are also taught in different political issues in order to learn about the contributions of Indian Scholars, thinkers, analysts, political experts and the prospective of the subject political science.

The students should be trained:

  • To be a leading Department in the Discipline of Political Science.
  • To Teach and understanding Political issues with a Focus on the Contributions of the Indian Scholars, Analysts, thinkers and the Perspectives of Political Science.
  • To Train the Students to become a responsible citizen and contribute to the well-being of the Society and the Country at large.
  • To make the Students Academically proficient and practically vibrant to face Real-Life Situations.

Future Plan:

  • To recruit and increase the Permanent number of faculties in the department.
  • To Organize Workshops, Seminars, Webinars and Conferences to keep faculties updated on the latest methodologies of Teaching and research in the domain of Political Studies.
  • To foster collaborations with other institute of repute for excellent exchange of academic programs.
  • To make the mentoring system pro-acvtive in order to provide better academic and career guidance of students.
  • To set up a departmental level library with wide range of books, journals and viable digital resources.

Admission Criteria or selection Procedure::

The minimum criteria for admission should be 10+2 or Higher Secondary level passed students from any Govt. or recognized institution. For honours a candidate must have 60% aggregate marks in H.S. as well as in the concerned subject. In pass course candidates will be selected on merit basis.

Minimum required faculties are available in the Department to continue the course.

Departmental Activities:

Departmental Meeting will be held every month to discuss the following academic and non- academic activities

  • Preparation of the time table for every semester and subject allotment in the beginning of every Semester
  • Preparation of academic calendar to conduct Internal assessment Test, Evaluation and upload the marks
  • Planning to organized the Special class for slow learner and tutorial class,
  • English department arranges different kinds on competition like Quiz, Debate, lectures on budget seminar on the current economic situation on global basis.
  • Conduct remedial class for the students
  • The students of the department organised by IQAC, NCC and NSS units of the college so that students can develop their social responsibilities.

Internal Assessment:

Internal assessments are conducted at the department level as per the University guide line. As per guidelines the scheme of the examination is divided as External and Internal Assessment. For Internal Assessment 30 Marks (20 marks for internal tests and10 marks for attendance) and for External Examination 70 marks are allotted out of 100 Marks. The systematic process is being laid down by the department to assess the marks. The internal marks are to be uploaded in the University Examination Portal and student can cheek and verify the internals personally.

Time Table for the Year:

The department prepares the time-table for every semester in coordination with the college time- table committee. The committee prescribes the time-table as per the departmental guidelines. The time table prepared under various levels such as:
